Good Morning Portville Panthers!

 

TODAY IS…Friday, June 3rd, 2022                                                                            It is an “ F “  Day

 

The rain date for the Bison's game is June 11th.  Everyone that went to the previous game will need to come pick up a new permission slip and have it signed and returned by June 9th.  There are currently 9 extra tickets for anyone interested in going.  First come first serve!!  By the way – the Baseball game will be a STAR WARS themed night for all to enjoy. 

 

ATTENTION Varsity Athletes: The Sports Banquet is in person this year.  It is next Thursday, June 9th at Good Times starting at 6:00pm.  You must get your tickets from Mrs. Colligan this week! Your parents can buy their tickets in the main office this week.  Again, the Sports Banquet is in person and you must get your tickets if you were on a varsity team this week from Mrs. Colligan. 

 

The Portville boys modified baseball team remains unbeaten after defeating Olean (9-2), Salamanca (18-0), and an undefeated Franklinville (6-1) over the last week. Cam Keesler, Ty Kosinski, and Colin German all picked up wins as they pitched almost flawlessly. The team played outstanding defense during the stretch and had the bats working, collecting a total of 30 hits. Outstanding job boys!

 

Now for a Special Announcement from the Athletic Department 

 

Athletes of the Month for the month of May

 

Track and Field: 

Ava Haynes, a sophomore, has been an instrumental athlete on the track throughout the month of May. Ava has consistently placed in the top 3 in her events to help lead the team to a record of 5-1 in dual meets. During the dual meet against Gowanda she had a personal record in high jump with a height of 5-8 and making provisional height for sectionals. During the Super 8 Meet of Champions she placed 5th overall in the 800 meter run with another personal record of 2:37.01 and made another provisional standard time. During the CCAA Counties meet she placed 6th in the 800 meter run and 8th in high jump.

 

Julia Wyant, a sophomore, has also been a strong competitor in both the field and on the track this season. Julia has also consistently placed in the top 3 for her events during the dual meets and has helped lead the girls team to the 5-1 record in dual meets. She has PR’ed in all of her events throughout the month of May. During the Super 8 Meet of Champions she was a part of the 400 meter relay team with a PR time of 52.03 seconds placing 1st. At a dual meet against Silvercreek-Forestville she PRed in both the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.6 seconds and long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 10.5 inches. Her biggest accomplishment of this season so far is being a part of the 1600 meter relay team, which broke the school record at the CCAA Counties meet with a time of 4:11.97 and placing 1st. She met provisional standard times in all four of her events and will compete this weekend at the State Qualifier in West Seneca West in the 400 meter relay, 1600 meter relay, and 200 meter dash.

 

Bryan Randolph, a junior, has also been a significant athlete both on the track and in the field. Like the girls, Bryan has also consistently placed in top 3 in his events to help lead his team to a record of 5-1 in dual meets. He placed 5th in the high jump at the Super 8 Meet of Champions. At the CCAA Counties Meet he placed 4th in high jump, 8th in the 200 meter dash, and 5th in the 1600 meter relay. During the Class D meet he placed 3rd in high jump and 2nd in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 3:38.06 for a qualifying provisional standard. He will continue his season this weekend at the state qualifier in HJ and the 1600 meter relay.

 

Simon Szymanski. Simon was a consistent contributor to the points during the dual meets to also help the boy’s team to a 5-1 dual meet record. At Super 8 Meet of Champions he placed 6th in the 400 meter dash. During the CCAA Counties meet PRed in the 400 meter dash with a 53.73, which was also a qualifying provisional standard time for the state qualifier meet. During the Class D meet he placed 4th in the 400 meter dash and was a part of the 1600 meter relay team with a time of 3:38.06. He will continue his season this weekend at the state qualifier meet in the 400 meter dash and 1600 meter relay.

 

Congratulations to Ava, Julia, Bryan, and Simon and good luck at the state qualifier this weekend!

 

Golf: 

Garrett Reynolds- Shot his best round of the year at Elkdale Country Club on our last match of the season. He shot the low round of his group, which gave us the victory against Catt LV. Well done Garrett!

 

Vic Vena- As a 7th grader, he and Garrett were as dependable as any player on the team. Vic also shot his lowest round in the last match of the year. He has a bright future for the Portville Golf Team.

 

Natalie Reynolds- Natalie was the first to step up in a match when we needed her. Her golf game improved as the season went on as well. In the all-girls tournament, Natalie finished 3rd. Great job Natalie!

 

Rachell Waddell-As self-proclaimed golf President, Rachel consistently offered a positive playing environment and pushed others to do their best. She played in a few matches this spring, and finished 7th in the girl’s tournament. Nice job Rachel!

 

Softball: 

Mia Welty: Mia had the second highest batting average on the team carrying an outstanding 0.536 on the season, she also had the highest on base percentage being on base 62% of the time. She scored 19 runs and batted in 22. She was selected to  the all-tournament team in the Bolivar- Richburg tournament. Her mental toughness, grit, steady bat, and lockdown defense at 1st base was crucial to our success this season.

 

Madison Ford: Madison Ford was thrown into an important starting role in centerfield as an 8th grader and did a stellar job. Her improved communication skills and savviness in the outfield kept base runners from stretching singles into doubles all season long. She had 0.947 fielding percentage, 0.396 batting average, scored 19 runs, and batted in 19 runs, as well stealing 12 bases. Great season Maddie!

  

Teagan Kosinski: Teagan was our leadoff batter where she was able to showcase her speed on the base paths stealing 22 bases and scoring 42 runs. She also had the highest slugging percentage on the team with a 0.687. She was named to the all-tournament team in the Bolivar-Richburg tournament and was MVP of the 1st Annual Don Jordan Tournament where she stole home scoring the go-ahead run in the championship round vs. Friendship/Scio. Teagan’s efforts on the bases and defensively at shortstop were a large part of our success this year.

 

Baseball: 

Luke Petruzzi -  During the month of May, Luke batted 559 with 18 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He was also stellar on the mound, pitching 10 innings with 15 strikeouts, a 1.40 ERA, and 2 wins.

 

Ryan Stillman -  Ryan batted 452 in May with 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored, as well as four doubles, in addition to playing superb defense at second base.

 

Nathan Petryszak - Nathan hit 355 during the month of May, driving in 9 runs, scoring 18, and getting hit 9 times. Nathan continues to extend his section 6 record for hit by pitch in a season, currently at 15.

 

Luke Petryszak -  Luke put a storybook ending to an epic sectional semifinal clash with Silver Creek, smashing the walkoff 2-run double in the bottom of the 9th. For the month, Luke hit 389 with 6 doubles, a triple, 2 home runs, 17 RBIs, and 22 runs scored. On the mound, Luke earned two wins, striking out 29 in 15 innings, while compiling a 0.93 ERA.
