Good Morning Portville Panthers!

 

TODAY IS…Monday, May 2, 2022                                                  It is an “ A “  Day

The senior chorus lesson scheduled for today has been moved to Wednesday pd 5.

 

Congratulations to all of the singers who represented PCS at the solo festival in Buffalo on Friday night!  Everyone received a score of excellent or outstanding from the judges! We are very proud of you!  

 

There will be a Drama Club meeting on Wednesday, May 11 in Mrs. Maxson’s room 120. This meeting will be covering many things including the upcoming Theatre Banquet, summer theatre camp, and next year’s show season. Please make every effort to attend!

The Buffalo Museum of Science is one of the coolest interactive science museums in Western NY, and we're heading there on Saturday, May 14th, for some interesting, engaging, hands-on fun AND lunch is provided!!   Please see Mr. Mitchell for more details and to sign up. 

 

If you love to create things and have ever wanted to explore the world of puppetry, we have an after school activity for you! Beginning Wednesday, May 18th Miss Burdick and Mrs. Maxson will be holding puppetry workshops. The four workshops will help you design and create a one of a kind puppet, write a skit and actually perform a puppet show. The workshops are limited to only 15 students. If you’d like to participate, please sign up outside Mrs. Maxson’s room 120!

 

Reminder Seniors…….please pick up an Ecology Camp Counselor application from Mrs. Baker in the office if you are interested.  It needs to be completed and returned to the main office by May 6th.   

 

Students in grades 9-12 have an opportunity to go to the Buffalo Bison’s Game on Sunday, May 22nd.  If interested in going – please sign up outside Mr. Matz classroom #205.  We need a head count by May 3rd – so don’t delay – sign up today!

 

Now for some news from our PCS Sports World….

The Portville Varsity Softball team improved to 7-0 Friday defeating Friendship/Scio 5-0 in the championship round of the Don Jordan Memorial tournament. Mallory Welty was the winning pitcher tossing 5 strikeouts, 2 walks, and allowing 4 hits. Congratulations to tournament MVP Teagan Kosinski, as well as all tournament team selections Mallory Welty, and Mattison Foster. GO PANTHERS!

  

On Saturday …Portville Varsity Softball improved to 8-0 defeating Salamanca 18-2 at home. Mallory Welty (5 K’s, 2 BB’s, & 3 hits) went 4 innings and Alisha Dickerson (3 K’s, 2 BB’s, & 0 hits) came in to close up shop in the remaining inning for the Panthers. Congratulations to “Co-Golden Glove” winners the battery of Mallory Welty & Mattison Foster for their exception play together in the field. Today’s “Queen of the Plate” goes to Madison Ford who went 3 for 3 with 3 runs & 2 RBI’s. Helping out the offensive attack for PCS was Peyton Young who went 3 for 4 with a double, 3 runs, and 2 RBI’s, and Mattison Foster who went 3 for 4 with a double, 3 runs and 1 RBI. Portville next travels to Salamanca Monday. Game time is 5:00pm. GO PANTHERS!!

 

Over the weekend the varsity baseball team split a pair of games. On Friday, Portville beat Salamanca 15-2 in 5 innings. It was bombs away for the Panthers who slugged five home runs. Maxx Yehl hit 2 home runs and had five RBIs, Luke Petryszak hit 2 home runs and had 6 RBIs, Michael Cole got the win on the mound, striking out 7 and hitting a home run of his own to go with six stolen bases. Nathan Petryszak prospered with 2 hits and Luke Petruzzi added two hits while Joe Randolph doubled for Portville.

 

On Saturday the Panthers traveled to Niagara Falls High School for the Western New York Athletics Showcase to take on New York perennial power Canisius Crusaders and lost 10-2. Michael Cole hit a solo bomb and Dakota Mascho added an RBI single for Portville.   The Panthers resume league play today vs. Randolph.

 

Congratulations to all the athletes at the Falconer invite this past weekend. Many came back with Personal records and the following athletes placed in the top 6.

 

Kyle North placed 5th place in both the 100 meter dash and long jump

Bryan Randolph placed 3rd in high jump

Simon Szymanksi placed 4th in the 400 meter dash

Ava Haynes placed 6th in the 800

Olivia Dean, Jessica Daley, Julia Wyant, and Jenna Wyant placed 1st on the 400 meter relay team.

Jessica, Julia, Jenna, and Aryanna Hatch also placed 1st on the 1600 meter relay team.

Jenna Wyant also placed 3rd in the 100 meter dash and 2nd in the 400 meter dash.

Julia Wyant also placed 4th in the 200 meter dash and 3rd in long jump

Aryanna Hatch also placed 5th in the 400 meter dash.
