Special Announcement from the Athletic Department.

Congratulations to our February Athletes of the Month

Girls Basketball:

Sophomore Ava Haynes has been a key role player for the Lady Panthers this season. She has been a starter, the first one off the bench, a forward, a guard….whichever role needs filled, she is always willing and up to the challenge. Her defensive skills have set her apart this season. She uses her quickness and length to frustrate smaller guards and it has been pivotal in our tough games as she has shut people down. Ava’s athleticism and hops has led her to have games of 13, 11, and 10 rebounds during the month as well.

Jordyn Sickels, a senior forward, was key in a league win over Maple Grove where she got the start and defended one of the league’s best post players. She ended up ripping down 6 rebounds and came away with 2 steals. Jordyn picked her Senior night to have a breakout game with 7 points and 5 rebounds in our victory over Gowanda. However, these statistics are not why Jordyn has been vital to the program this month. It is how she acts on the bench, in the lockerroom, on the bus, and in the gym that deserves recognition. She is a wonderful captain and leader and is always invested. She is comical and provides our entertainment which helps the team to relax before competition. She’s the type of player coaches love to have as part of the program!

These girls helped the Lady Panthers achieve a 20 and 4 overall record which resulted in a league and sectional championship.

Boys Basketball:

Christian Gariepy: led the team in steals with 21. Christian earned a starting spot by the end of the season by doing all of the little things.

Troy Van Sickle: was 2nd in the team in rebounds and blocked shots. He was efficient on offense, shooting 40% from the field.

 Wrestling:

Dakota Mascho was 9-2 for the month of February. He had five pins, a major decision, won the Class C/D Tournament, won Section 6 NY State Qualifying  Tournament for the third year in a row. He lost in the Semifinals at the NY State Championships 6-5 in overtime to the eventual NY State Champion and places fifth at the tournament for the second time. He finished the season 35-2 and his career with an overall record of 170-18.

Hayden Emely- Hayden was 5-4 in the month of February. He placed 4th at the Class c/d tournament and placed 5th at the Ny State Section 6 Qualifying tournament. Hayden finished his season with a 17-11 record and a Career record  of 19-19.

Again, congratulations to these athletes! Please come see Mrs. Colligan for your t-shirt and certificate.
