Good Morning Portville Panthers!

The High School Library will be closed Periods 4 and 8 until further notice.

 

Seniors and juniors: please remember to stop by guidance so we can collect your cellphone numbers. 

 

Today is Picture Day at school!  Regular photos for 7th through 11th grade will be taken during English classes.  Sports photos will be taken at the very end of the day and after school.  All photographs will be taken in the workout room/wrestling room that is located off of the weight room facility.  Please enter through the back door that is by the Panther Pause.

 

If any senior signed up to have their Formal retaken, if you didn’t go when you first got in the building, please head down there now.   

 

Reminder to Seniors….we are going to Timbercrest on Wednesday. We leave at 8:30AM and will return around 6PM. Please get your permission signed and returned to Mrs. Welty by first-thing Tuesday morning. Read the slip….you each need to pay $10 to go, as well as bring something. It is explained on the paper. Once again, permission slips need to be returned by 1st period Tuesday morning.

 

Art Society will be having its first meeting this Thursday, Sept 16th from 2:30-3:30 in Ms. Burdick's art room, 103.  Art Society is open to any student in grades 7-12 interested in working on their own art.  See Ms. Burdick for more information.

 

Class Officer applications are on the counter in the high school main office for any freshmen, sophomore, junior, or senior interested in becoming a President, Vice-President, Secretary, or Treasurer. They are due back to the office by Friday, September 17th. 

 

The Drama Club will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, September 22nd.   We will hold our 1st Club meeting and then read through the Fall Play. Students in Grades 7-12 who would like to act or work on stage crew are welcome to join the Drama Club!

 

Reminder for anyone interested in the Academic Club – make sure you stop in the main office to sign up before  September 17th . Spaces are limited. Practices will be held weekly on Tuesday or Thursday. Late bus transportation will be available if needed.

The lady Panther JV volleyball team won the Gowanda  Invitational Tournament on Saturday defeating Forrestville, Holland, Olean, Orchard  Park and Allegany-Limestone for the championship. 

 

Adriana Ensell led the team with 30 aces and 19 kills, Mindy Maurer contributed 19 aces and 5 kills, Emilie Erick 17 aces, 5 digs and 2 kills, Brielle Fidurko 11 aces, 11 kills and Addie Walker and Hanna Wysocki both ran the offense with 20 assists a piece. The JV team will host Jamestown on Tuesday at 6:00. Varsity to follow at 7:30. 

 

 

The Lady Panther volleyball team played in the St. Mary’s of Lancaster tournament on Saturday going undefeated in pool play against Williamsville East, East Aurora and Clarence. 

For the semi final match they defeated rival Eden 25-9 & 25-17. The Championship match was played against the host team St. Mary’s of Lancaster. Portville picked up set one 25-20, dropped set two 27-29 and St. Mary’s picked up the 3rd set 15-11 winning the match. The lady Panthers played amazing. 

Kylie blessing ran the offense with 108 assists, 17 kills and 11 digs, Tori Unverdorben 27 kills, 21 digs and 4 aces, Olivia Cook 32 kills, 21 digs and 3 aces, Sam steadman 21 kills, 24 digs, 14 aces and 4 blocks, Lillian Bentley 15 kills, 9 aces, Ava Haynes 11 kills, 3 aces and Jillian Stebbins 13 digs and 7 aces. 

The lady Panther play at home against Jamestown on Tuesday at 6:30. 

 

The boys varsity soccer team won the Olean Tournament this past weekend,  defeating a very skilled Hornell team in penalty kicks. Michael Cole scored on a breakaway 20 minutes in. After allowing the game tying goal 10 minutes later, the Panther defense made up of Nate Petryszak, Todd Stone, Cole Faulkner, Kevin Eberth, and Thomas Carls along with goal keeper Troy VanSickle held Hornell off for the next 60 minutes. Penalty kicks were needed to decide the tournament champion… Nick Harmon, Kyle Mathes, and Christian Gariepy each made their kick, and Troy VanSickle made two greats saves to seal the deal for the Panthers. Come support the boys at their home opener on Tuesday night at 6pm.
