Good Morning PCS Panthers…

 TODAY is Monday,     February 26th, 2024                                        It is an “ F “  Day.

 

Friday’s trivia question was:  Max Fleischer introduced Betty Boop in 1930 but the character was inspired by which African American jazz singer.  The answer is Esther Jones.  Esther Jones or as she was known on stage as “Baby Esther” was an entertainer.  Jones had s cabaret act at the infamous Cotton Club in Harlem, NYC where she sang with a unique voice style featuring “boop-boop-a-doops”.  Although Betty Boop was originally shown in cartoons as African American as the character became more popular, the cartoon was transformed into a white woman.  The correct answer was given this week by Kyla Hendryx.

 

The Physics Club will be having their group photo taken in the library TODAY at 2PM SHARP.  Once again, Physics Club photo today at 2PM sharp in the Library.  DO NOT BE LATE!

 

There will be a REGULAR PRE DEPARTURE meeting for all students traveling to Costa Rica during period X in the HS Library. ALL students traveling on the COSTA RICA trip are expected to attend.  Again, to repeat… ALL students traveling on the COSTA RICA trip are expected to attend the meeting today during PERIOD X.

 

Anyone interested in taking a trip to the Paddock Golf Dome to hit golf balls at the range, and use their virtual golf simulators on March 4th, right after school…Sign ups and permission slips are in Mr. McIntosh’s room. Only the first 16 students will be accepted.

 

REMINDER to 7-12th graders – you have the opportunity to go tubing at Holiday Valley THIS WEDNESDAY.  The bus will leave at 3:30, and students will return to the school around 8pm.  Pizza and drinks will be provided.  Permission slips are outside of Room 201.  Please return your permission slips to Mrs. Morella or Mrs. Smith.

 

Attention all students grade 7-12.  Portville College Scholarships is holding its annual Phone-a-Thon THIS Friday and Saturday March 1 and 2nd.  This is a fun and social way to earn community service hours as well as earn scholarship money.  If you’re interested, sign up outside of Mrs. Smith’s room or in your history classes.”

LAST REMINDER to girls interested in signing up for Modified, JV, or Varsity softball sign up sheets are posted outside of Coach Torrey’s room.

 

ALSO…LAST REMINDER to students in grades 7 and 8!   Modified Track and Field season sign ups are still going … at two locations:   7th grade hall by Mrs. Strade’s room and in the 8th grade hallway by Mr. Mitchell’s room.

 

Students in  9th – 12th grade that are interested in Varsity  Track and Field, please sign-up outside of Mrs. Luce’s classroom.

 

The Lady Panthers picked up victory #15 on Friday night with a 62 to 27 win over MST.  Ali Haynes had a career-high 16 points with 5 rebounds. Other stats included:  Lil Bentley 17 points, 5 boards, 2 blocks; Ava Haynes 11 points & 5 steals; Jackie Scanlon 6 steals & 3 assists, and Ava Jo Edwards with 4 assists.  Next stop for LPB is a Class B2 Semifinal game against Salamanca on Wednesday, 02/28.  Location is Jamestown High School with a start time of 5:30PM.  It would be great if the Portville school community would attend and support the girls.
