2014-2015 Second Grade Back to School Supply List

Dear Families,

To help your child get ready for the challenges and excitement of the coming year, it’s important for them to be prepared. Your child will need both the basic supplies and teacher specific supplies for the 2014-2015 school year:

Basic Supplies:

  • 1 box of Crayons, no more than 24 pack or mini-twistables
  • 24 regular yellow pencils for community use (please sharpen a few at home if possible)
  • Washable Fine Line Crayola Markers for community use
  • Colored pencils
  • Erasers- 3 large pink
  • Pencil box (no larger than 6x8 inches)
  • 2 composition notebooks
  • 6 large glue sticks (Elmer’s works best)
  • 2 box of tissues for the class
  • Safety Scissors (pointed)
  • 1 pack of Post-its

Backpack/school bag

Desk space is limited and no binders or notebooks are needed. ☺

Second Grade Information

Weekly Special Area Classes

We operate on a 6 letter day (A-F) schedule throughout the year. Our specials will run from 11:30-12:30 daily. Your child will attend the following special area classes on these days:

This will be the first year that your child will attend the swim program at school. Your child will need a swimsuit, towel and plastic bag each “B” day. Water shoes are recommended, but not required.

Meet the Teacher Night:

Meet the Teacher Night will be on Thursday, September 18th from 6:00- 8:00pm. I look forward to seeing you that night! If you have questions or concerns in the meantime please write a note, send an email or give me a quick call.

Good attendance is very important.Please notify the Elementary Office if your child will be absent. Follow up with an email or send in a written excuse for each day that your child is absent; otherwise, it will be considered an unexcused absence

Lunch & Snack: Lunch Time 10:38-11:08


We will have lunch daily from 10:38-11:08. Lunch is $1.75 each day. You can send in money at any time to be put on your child’s lunch account or use mylunchmoney.com

We will have the opportunity to have an afternoon snack daily. Children are responsible to provide their own healthy snack and

drink. A piece of fruit, pretzels, cheese sticks, dry cereal, trail mix, etc. would be great choices; Please-NO CANDY!

I will provide a small water bottle for each child with their name on it for classroom use.

Curriculum & Communication:

The folder you send in with your child will be our base of communication. Any notes, permission slips, or important items will be placed in the folder. Please check it daily.

I will be sending a weekly note home that will tell you when we will have gym, music, pool, library and music. Also you will see that

I have noted important events and weekly themes in the letter too! On gym days please be sure to send your child to school in

sneakers. Our class will have two websites: Portville-Study and Mrs. Marsfelder’s Magnificent Second Grade. You may already be

familiar with Portville-Study from 1st grade. I have sent home a permission slip for our secure class website. Please sign it and return it

as soon as possible.

I can be reached at school any time during the day. However if you need to speak to me at length the best times to call are

Allergies & Medical Concerns:


I know that you have filled out tons of paper work, but please make sure that you have notified me of any and all allergies , as well as any other health concerns. We may be creating special snacks at times, and I want everyone to be safe! Also we have a class guinea pig.

Morning Program:

Morning Program is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays beginning at 8:00 am. Parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles alike are all welcome to attend the Portville Morning Program.
